Elections for the House of Representatives

Newsreels in which Dutch subjects of a certain week are presented.


People working for political parties distribute leaflets in letterboxes in the evening. The next day people go out and vote, a.o. Prof. Jelle Zijlstra, who's heading the list of candidates of the ARP, chess player Dr. Max Euwe and Gerben Wagenaar of the CPN in Amsterdam, Dr. Willem Drees and A.D.W. Tilanus of the CHU in The Hague, Rev. Zandt of the SGP in Delft, Prof. Pieter Oud who's heading the list of candidates of the VVD in Rotterdam, cabaret performer Toon Hermans in Zandvoort, Prof. C.P.M. Romme of the KVP in Bloemendaal and cyclist Wout Wagtmans in St. Willebrord. After 7 PM a voting station in Haarlem is closed and the votes are counted. People wait for the results on a big screen at the Dam Square in Amsterdam. Eventually the final results are put up on the screens, the PvdA and the KVP gain seats in Parliament.
